 VELA is hiring a Community Engagement Specialist

VELA empowers families of children with special needs, starting with the parent first. We support families by providing interactive courses, support groups, case management and family fun days. Through our program, parents learn how to support their child's medical and special education needs, connect to community resources and become their child’s greatest advocate. Position: Community Engagement Specialist, Part-Time Employee

Position Summary: We seek an energetic team player to join VELA as our Community Engagement Specialist. You will provide administrative, communication, event, and program support. You will work as a key member of a small team and support the executive director in our fast-growing organization that is transforming the lives of hundreds of families of children with special needs.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Assist with the communications plan and fundraising campaigns
• Generate original content for email newsletters, website updates and social media postings
• Present slideshows, videos, fundraising materials to professional audiences and families
• Manage ongoing communication, including regular postings on our social media accounts
• Collaborate with leadership team in donor acquisition and management
• Maintain our donor database
• Process donations, prepare acknowledgement letters and engage in donor appreciation
• Participate in planning and production of annual fundraising even as a key member of the event team
• Support administration and event planning needs
• Manage key volunteers at family fun days, open houses and other events and activities
• Build and deepen relationships with program partners, funders and volunteers
• Support program outreach and recruitment efforts
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
• Four-year degree in a related field or associate degree with relevant work experience
• A minimum of two years’ work experience preferably in fundraising, communications and/or event planning

Hours and Compensation Part-time, 20 hours per week with the possibility of additional hours Work hours are semi-flexible; the majority of the work is to be completed during normal business hours (office in East Austin) with some nights and weekends included for special events. Pay: $20/hour
